Hello friends
Prompted by a very good question from Sandra at the weekend, today's post is about Matting Basics.
Matting Basics dies are from the Spellbinders™ Nestabilities® Card Creator range.
They are designed to be used alone or to coordinate with the more fancy designs in each size range.
So...how useful are they?
In my opinion...very! You can layer cardstock, patterned paper, images, photos
each time ensuring you have the perfect proportions with embossed edging.
Here I've used A-2 Matting Basics A to cut/emboss red striped paper and matted onto
Because I know they are sets from the Card Creator range I am guaranteed the proportions are perfect.
Spellbinders have come up with a useful way to remember too.....
C - Create, A - Assemble, R - Refine, D- Done!
Also how about combining Matting Basics dies to create an aperture as featured on this card?
A useful option.
I hope that explains the wonders of Matting Basics.
Have a lovely week - is Easter really just around the corner...!
Take care friends.
Morning Christine,
ReplyDeleteI agree Matting basics are a must have - i cannot cut a straight line for toffee and the spacing between is perfect. I realise they are not fancy but what is the point of a fancy topper when the base topper is wonky.
Love the tag - i do so hope Easter is just around the corner as then i can have chocolate and cake yippee.

GM Christine,
ReplyDeleteMatting Basics are fine but there are so many other goodies out there to buy first as I'm using my Rectangles and Squares to get perfect matting already.
Have a good day

Hi Christine,
ReplyDeleteI agree, matting basics are a must have for me. Being a bit of a perfectionist I get so frustrated if my mats aren't perfect. I wasted such a lot of card and paper before I invested in these.
Love Chris X
Morning Christine thanks for the run down on matting basics i can't cut straight for the life of me xx hazel
ReplyDeleteHi Christine. Love todays blog. i must admit the Matting Basics were well down on my "Must Have" list but they have crept up a bit. Like everyone else I think I've done well with my ruler and knife then I matt and realise 1 side's longer than the other.
ReplyDeleteHope the weather's getting better in your area.

Morning Christine, I agree with you, matting basics dies are brilliant, I used to do it by eye, but never seemed to get it completely right, and also with the matting basics dies, there is an embossed edge, which is lovely. I also think you could never do a perfect rectangle or square etc as an aperture, so these are perfect.
ReplyDeleteLots of love from Patricia xx
Morning Christine,
ReplyDeleteLooks like I need these dies, have been toying with buying them. There are so many new things are available just now its difficult to know what to get, especially when I don't have that much to spend. Thanks for the run down very useful.
Love your creations today very pretty.

" Get ready for a heatwave next month "

Hi these are beautiful. Love the ideas and info you give to us all x
ReplyDeleteWonderful explanation, and yes they are in my collection but alas not used as much as I perhaps should, I would like to know what size card base you used for the second card, as to create an A2 card blank from an A4 piece of card means I only get one card as opposed to two if I use English sizing, not that this is a huge issue, but I do tend to use pre-bougt card blanks and a C6 card base is not compatible with the A2 matting basics, just off to collect my order for the new 5x7 basics :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Christine, I have bought the matting basics and they are great i cannot cut straight so i needed them , your card and tag are very pretty thank you .. Jean Z xx
ReplyDeleteGood morning Christine
ReplyDeleteI have to admit to not having heard of these dies before (she says embarrassingly!) and I reckon they could be very useful, as I too suffer with wonky eyes sometimes!
I love your card and tag today, thank you so much for explaining....it's almost a MDD instead of FDD! Lol
Still a bit of snow on the ground this morning, and very cold and windy. It must start to improve soon surely?
Have a good day.

Morning Christine, Lovely card, i think all the basic nestabilities are important dies in my collection. Emma
ReplyDeleteAs much as I have tried I can't manage to cut the perfect matt so when spellbinders bought these dies out I didn't hesitate. I agree with one of the other ladies, there are other dies you may want to buy first, but if you can I would definitly add these to your selection ...I wouldn't be without mine.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card and tag.... I see the tiny flowers have made another appearance :)
We have sunshine today so I hope it has reached Gravesend.

Dear Christine, well I guess I had better buy some matting basics dies, I just questioned (in my head) their usefulness! But I am now convinced! It only takes a fabulous looking tag to change my thoughts about a die!! Haha!! Thank you for taking the trouble to answer my query, I really do appreciate it!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week everyone xx

Love your tag today Christine and you have changed my mind about the basic dies, so must save harder. Thanks to Sandra for requesting this info!

ReplyDeleteThese are really useful dies, but they are not in my stash yet.
Love the tag today, my friend gave me a pile of tags the other day so now I can have a play with them
