Hello friends
Since I featured this project...
and this one...
(Decorative Curved Square and Flower Play)
I received lots of requests for enamel dots.
They are actually quite hard to get hold of so I was delighted to read in this month's
edition of Simply Cards and Papercraft that you can make your own.
So here is Lisa Hausmann's technique tried at home in my kitchen late last night!
You need a baking tray, a non-stick liner and Hama beads (or some similar beads).
Preheat oven to 200 degrees.
Evenly spread your beads.
Pop them in the oven and this how they looked after about 10 minutes.
It is recommended that you 'cook' them for about 30 minutes, a little more if the
holes have not filled in.
Here are mine after 45 minutes, I've got a pretty hot fan oven which I think
explains why some of the circles are a little distorted as the liner moved a little.
I'm really happy with the yellow ones, super handy for flower middles.
All in all well worth doing and a fraction of the price.
I shall definitely be using up my bag of beads, look out for them on future projects.

Today celebrating my niece's 21st Birthday, pub lunch. Bella is invited...
zero calories if you eat outside - honest!
Take care friends.
Morning All.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips. Have a great day, take care Kitty.
What a brilliant idea! Must pick a bag of them up next time I'm in The Range.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if a heat gun would work and stop the problem you had with the paper moving? Otherwise I might rub the baking tray with a little oil to hold the paper down a bit.

What a brilliant idea. The only thing I'm wondering is whether it made the house smell of hot plastic? X

Morning Christine, Two lovely card, I especially love the second one with the fancy square die-cut, I love that die.
ReplyDeleteNot sure about trying that technique hahaha, I think I may set the oven on fire hahaha. The bottom piccie enamel dots look good though.
I hope you all have a lovely lunch, Happy Birthday to your Niece, 21 is a fantastic age (I think I can remember that far back hahaha). Bella, enjoy your lunch too.
Lots of love from Patricia xx
Good idea with the beads Christine. I usually do my centres with Cosmic Shimmer glue dots - but will have a go at this some time and try not to catch the house on fire !!
ReplyDeleteHave a good lunch - hope the weather is kind to you all.

Hi Christine
ReplyDeleteGreat tip today. My daughter has hundreds of these beads and won't miss a few so I'd better get cooking.
Take care

What a coincidence! I was itching to have a go at this idea having read this feature at the weekend, but didn't want to buy beads especially. My mum used to buy them to make pictures with the grandchildren and sure enough she still has a boxful in an assortment of colours! Lucky me! She was fascinated today when I told her what I intended to do with them. Can't wait to make my own colourful dots later on. I'm amazed that anyone would come up with the idea of cooking their beads, but it is great when things can be 'repurposed'.
ReplyDeleteHello Christine,
ReplyDeleteThere's going to be a run on these beads, I feel it in my water!!
It's a brilliant idea and one I shall certainly try. Thanks for the tip.
Love Maureen xxx

ReplyDeleteYou've found a good tip there Christine, now everyone's going to be baking beads!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a nice 21st celebration with your niece.
