Hello friends
I mentioned a while back that I have been asked to review a couple of sewing books.
The publishers stumbled across my blog and contacted me - I feel very privileged!
The first book is called 'Sew Over It' - what a great title!
It is written by Lisa Comfort.
Not only has Lisa written this book she also owns a sewing cafe in London,
all the details are here - classes, online shop and more.
She has put together some brilliant You Tube videos including this one where you get to see
the cafe - it is dreamy!
Flicking through the book my first reaction was the colours, large photos and
clear step by step instructions. A flick through clearly wasn't going to be enough!
I popped the kettle on and sat down for a proper read and I immediately
felt motivated to grab my sewing machine!
Being a Spellbinders™ crafter, one project jumped out at me which I knew would cross over
to work with dies - a felt corsage.
In this video you will see Lisa cutting out felt circles by hand - I chose to use
Standard Circles and Big Scalloped Circles - regular felt.
This is how they look - I'm loving them and now want to make loads!

Morning Christine, this book looks really interesting, I have read about this sewing cafe before and thought what a great idea. I do enjoy sewing crafty items but haven't had the time of late and my sewing machine is looking a little lonely...must pay it a visit with some felt die-cuts! Carole Z X
ReplyDeleteHi Christine. Such a good idea. My experience with felt and Spellbinders wasn't successful but I think I was using a cheap type.
ReplyDeleteI used to make all my childrens clothes when they were small, both sewing a knitting but when they wanted designer labels the machine went away and hasn't been out since.

ReplyDeleteMorning Christine, I love your felt corsage. The book looks amazing and I love the idea of a sewing cafe. I used to do loads of sewing but I now there are so few places to buy fabric even curtaining that I just dont do it anymore.

I cant sew but i will have a go at the corsage , i think i maybe able to do this one .

ReplyDeleteGreat idea for a corsage, I've designed and made up a brooch/corsage using Spellbinders Rose Creations Die recently, as like you I'm hooked on felt. Will be trying this one out too at some point.
A friend of mine has recently semi retired, and we have both in the past enjoyed sewing, this book will be given serious consideration re a Christmas gift for her, thanks for helping to rekindle the idea of sewing again.

What a cool book! I can's sew at all so may buy it at some stage and have a go. Will definitely be trying the corsage though, I am sure I can manage that. The cafe looks amazing too xx

ReplyDeleteI've just watched this episode of Kirsty's new programme (I know...don't ask!) and have to say I thought the sewing cafe looked absolutely brilliant, and a great idea. Almost makes me want to get a sewing machine and have a go!
